Sol Dance Presents: Poranguí LIVE in Atlanta

Sol Dance Presents:
Beauty Way Tour: A Music, Dance, and Healing Experience

We are deeply humbled & proud to bring you a very special experience this Autumn featuring multicultural musician, healer, and educator Poranguí alongside his partner, Ashley Klein. They will be making their Atlanta debut as part of their cross-country, Beauty Way Album Tour, this coming November 18th at the Chapel on Sycamore in Decatur Square.

About the Event:

The Beauty Way album and Tour are inspired by Diné (Navajo) teachings from Poranguí & Ashley’s beloved Southwest. To walk in the Beauty Way is to live in balance and harmony with the unfolding of all life. Walking the Beauty Way together, we weave ourselves more deeply into the fabric of the earth, herself. Poranguí’s forthcoming album, Beauty Way, will be released incrementally over the summer.

Hózhóogo naasháa doo. May we all walk in beauty.

Event Flow:

Both Poranguí & Ashley will create an intentional container to experience the healing power of music, dance, and authentic expression. Poranguí’s live music set will be complemented by Ashley’s vocal guidance, creating an unforgettable 2-hour journey through the beauty of the earth and the tapestry of life.

Sol Dance Co-Founder & Ceremonialist, Maya Lemberg will open the space and ground the collective as MC for the evening.

Sol Dance Co-Founder & Resident DJ Scott Houston will directly support the duo with a sweet and soulful opening set to begin the evening in a sonically-sacred way.

About Poranguí:

Reared among the three cultures of Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S., Poranguí was steeped in various traditional forms of music, healing and ceremony since birth. Drawing from his cross-cultural background and ethnomusicology training at Duke University, Porangui has over twenty-five years of international work as an artist, musician, healer, and educator, utilizing the healing properties of sound and movement to foster our individual and collective well being.

As a live looping artist and one-man orchestra Poranguí weaves ancestral songs and indigenous rhythms from around the globe. Creating his performances from scratch using looping technology, Poranguí’s live grooves range from meditative to dance, moving the body, lifting the spirit, and transcending the divide between performer and audience. His World Soul concerts have taken him around the globe and led him to collaborate with many artists, including a current album series titled Kuya Sessions with Liquid Bloom.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Ecstatic Dance?

Ecstatic Dance is a freeform movement journey, held in a safe & sacred container.  Most dances are facilitated by a trained DJ specifically chosen for their ability to curate an experience designed to help you move. Through Ecstatic Dance you will find a communal opportunity to connect more deeply with your body and self-expression.

Do I need to know how to dance in order to participate?

Absolutely no dance experience is necessary! In this regard, Sol Dance (and generally any other kind of “Ecstatic Dance” event) becomes the perfect outlet for those who think they “can’t dance”.

We encourage participants to give themselves full permission to be themselves – move how you want to move in every given moment, feel how you feel, etc. There is no way to get it wrong (but please be consensual with others).

Wait... Is this a party?

Believe it or not, Sol Dance is NOT a party. That isn’t to say we don’t have a lot of fun doing what we do, but what we offer is more than a party. First off, Sol Dance is a substance-free environment. We get high off of the music, dance, and communal experience. Moreover, Sol Dance provides an opportunity to go deep within yourself and be physically moved by your body and inner wisdom. While this is also a community event, you can choose for it to be an intimately personal process.

What kind of music can I expect?

With sounds ranging from: soulful, worldly, eclectic, deep, serene, and funky, you can expect a dynamic sonic arrangement from our resident DJs. You can listen to some examples here.

Can I arrive anytime?

You can arrive anytime during the journey, but we highly suggest you get there as the music begins to familiarize yourself with the space and ease your way into the dance.

Can I just come and watch?

We highly encourage 100% of your embodied participation as this is a movement-based experience. That being said, If you would like to stay on a blanket, yoga mat, or even the grass before you feel called to move your body – that’s totally fine!

How can I prepare?

We suggest the following:
Wearing anything that allows you to move comfortably.
Wearing shoes is optional (for outdoor events only!)
Bringing a full water bottle.
Bringing a mat or blanket to sit on the ground or in the grass (for outdoor events!)
Utilizing sun-protection ie. hats, sun glasses, or lotion!
Make sure to bring an open mind & heart!

Can I bring my kids?

Yes! We welcome people of all ages! Our community loves when children are present! Bring the whole family.
